Shikoku-mura History and zest of Japanese housing, Japanese room and Tatami

Life style with sofa, table and chair on wood flooring.
Though there are many Japanese living without Tatami in their house, there are still lot of people who prefer Japanese room and who say Tatami is relaxing.

Japanese room and Tatami. Wooden flat building with straw as its roof.
There is a facility in Takamatsu, Kagawa, that preserves such rare Japanese housing and tools in order to hand them down to the next generation.

“Shikoku-mura”.
There are old houses and lighthouse of Edo and Meiji period who are moved to here.

Dirt floor and fire place.
“Kamidana” which is a high shelf where gods are worshiped in the house and Tatami.
Warmth of Japanese room and its zest.

You can find here the
“Japanese people’s life”
with their breathing which did exist not so far from now.
The theme of Shikoku-mura is
“new place where you’ve already been”.

It’s a place with plenty of old Japanese good spirit rare in the world.
