Usuki Castle with Tatami keep Walk in zestful castle town
Usuki in Oita flourished as castle town under Usuki Castle built in 1556 by Sorin Otomo.
Sorin paid attention to overseas and accepted foreign religion and culture in a positive manner.
The town of Usuki at that time is said to be an international town
with the effect of import/export with China and Portugal.
Only
“Tatami tower”
and
“Large gate tower”
are left of Usuki Castle.
The ruin of castle has become a park and is famous for its cherry blossom.
Tatami tower is such a rare name but some say that it’s because
there were Tatami inside the tower.
However, the real origin is unknown.
There are a lot of must see spot in Usuki with atmosphere of Edo.
“The history road of Nioza”
is a cobbled street with samurai residence, old storehouse and temple.
At
“ancient Shinkoji”
which is now a free resting spot, you can rest your tired fee on Tatami and enjoy the view of Usuki as the same as 450 years ago from the Japanese room on the 2nd floor.
Zestful Castle Town, Usuki is one of a must see town.
