The city of Goryokaku  “magistrate's office” with Tatami and night scenery  Hakodate

Hakodate-shi, Hokkaido.
It is famous for its night scenery which is named as one of the best three night
sceneries of the world and for
“Goryokaku”.
Goryokaku is famous for being in shape of star.

It was constructed at the end of Edo period as the new
“Hakodate magistrate’s office”
which was the center of government after
“opening Japan”
to the U.S.

However, its role was over within few years with the end of Edo period and it was burnt by
“Hakodate battle”.

Voice requesting its reconstruction started to rise since the latter Showa period and with research and investigation, it was reconstructed in 2010.

Reconstructed Hakodate magistrate’s office uses plenty of luxurious material rare in modern construction.
Tatami-Omote of Tatami in the large hall is of the highest quality called
“Bingo Omote”.

Fusuma door uses hand-made papers and once you open it, you will be amazed by Japanese interior
with 72 Tatami and Tokonoma and shelf with Keyaki.

Corridors on the both sides of the large hall is also Tatami floored and
you can experience the traditional Japanese architecture.
