“The world is waiting for the tatami” Enthusiasm and challenges to connect the tatami to the future

Since long time ago, the tatami has been with Japanese people.
It’s necessary culture to talk about Japan.

But recently, a style of architecture is westernized so that the tatami and
the Japanese traditional room are reducing rapidly.

If only we had a past way of thinking about
“the role of the tatami”
it wouldn’t be accepted from many people.

in Sagae-city Yamagata, is an organization established by tatami shops
in all Japan sympathized with such thoughts.
“We are closing with the tatami, and we have to change”.

On February 24th, a talk event
“The world is waiting for the tatami,TATAMI TOMORROW”
was held by
“TA/TA/MI/RAI team”
inaugurated from Tatami-ya-Dojo and a leading cosmetics company in Japan named
“Shiseido”.

On that day, there was a exhibition to experience the
“relax chair”
combined with the tatami, vibrations and sounds, people exchanged views with active creators
in various fields about
“the future of the tatami”.

It took for 3 hours and full details of necessary elements for the tatami
from now on, expression ways of the new tatamis, and many ideas.

In spite of constraining by images and way to use of existing tatamis, to keep its
“goodness”
and to develop itself will be a necessary element for the tatami from now on.

This event was a sure foothold for the future that the
“tatami”
a proudly traditional culture in Japan, will be extended all the world.
