Aya Town in Miyazaki Prefecture is one of the most beautiful towns in Japan, and a lot of emigrates settle
there to live in rural areas.
It’s famous of the rich nature, fresh fruits like oranges and mangos, and traditional crafts used woods,
a special product.
Aya-jo Castle is in such Aya Town.
It was built in 1331, so that it has about 700 years of history.
Current castle walls were rebuilt in 1985.
Though most rebuilt castle walls are made of concretes, Aya-jo Castle was rebuilt by local woods to keep
former character, so that it’s payed attention.
The view to see the town from the castle tower is marvelous.
On the 1st and 2nd floor exhibit old documents, samurai dolls sitting on the tatami to remind us the old times,
and armors as the museum.
We can see the lives of samurai people in the Warring States era.
There is a complex facility called “Aya International Craft Castle”.
To succeed traditional crafts in Aya like silk fabrics, wood works, bamboo works, and potteries,
it was built of local Japanese torreya and zelkova by craftsmen in the town.
There isn’t only display sales of handmade crafts, but also it’s able to experience to make various traditional crafts like potteries, woven fabrics, and dyeing with vegetables, and these are very popular.
There are the grave wooden Aya-jo Castle and warm traditional culture experiences.
Strolling the most beautiful town, Aya Town is fulfilled by the charms as Japan.
