Hanagasa, Yamadera Temple, and Zao Hot Spring The Japanese atmosphere in Yamagata in the summer season
With powerful shouts and brave sounds of Hanagasa drums, the gorgeous festival float starts to parade.
Even this year, “Yamagata Hanagasa Festival”, that dancers wear beautiful clothes and dance beautifully with a bamboo hat, is held from 8/5 to 8/7.
Hanagasa Festival is one of “Tohoku 4 Major Festival” along with Tanabata Festival in Sendai, Nebuta Festival in Aomori, and Kantou Festival in AKita.
More than 1,000,000 people visit to Hanagasa Festival, and it makes the exciting summer in Yamagata with “Yamagata Great Fireworks Display” held on 8/14.
Yamagata Prefecture locates on the southwest part of Tohoku region in Japan and faces on the sea of Japan.
It’s well known by mountains, hot springs, and temples.
And also, Zao Skiing Resort and Zao Hot Spring are famous; there are rich nature and frost covered trees that ices are called “snow monster”.
In Yamagata City, a prefectural capital, there is “Risshaku-ji Temple (also called Yamadera Temple)”, where a temple visited by a poet Basho MATSUO on his way of “The Narrow Road to the Deep North” in 1689.
