Is it cooler than the main island? A resort in the south Miyako-jima Island, the most beautiful ocean in the East, and grommet
Miyako-jima Island takes 1 hour by an airplane from Naha in the main island of Okinawa, and it’s 300km far away from there.
In the Last Glacial Period, the sea level was low so that it connected to the Asian Continent. Various people from Japan, Asia, the Pacific, and the Europeans came here.
Because of this, it has original myths and cultures, different from Japan and the main island of Okinawa.
During the summer season, its beach resort is good, and furthermore, its humidity is lower than the main island of Japan so that it’s good weather to stay.
First of all, in Miyako-jima Island, we want to eat “Miyako Soba (noodle)”. Usually, it’s called “Okinawa Soba (noodle)”, that is an original ramen in Okinawa taken soup stock from pork bone and Katsuobushi (dried bonito), but the way to cook depending on the islands.
The soup of Miyako Soba tastes simple, and the noodle is thin and wide including eggs. Ingredients are pork meats and Kamaboko (boiled fish paste), and sometimes, putting curry powder on if you like.
Though it’s sober, the original tofu in Miyako-jima Island is the one to eat.
Yushi-Tofu is soft and tastes gently, that is made from mixed up soybean milk made from boiled soybeans and the seawater of Miyako-jima Island.
We can eat it just as it is, with salad, or with Umibudou, a popular food of Okinawa.
Apart from Yushi-Tofu, we recommend Shima-Tofu, that is harder and better to fry.
Apart from these, there are a lot of grommets in Miyako-jima Island. Some hotels are able to eat all local grommets.
In the hotel, you will be healed on the Ryukyu Tatami from the fatigues by the journey.
