Gifu Prefecture is located in the Chubu area, almost center of Japan.
Shirakawa Village is famous as Shirakawagou, and it is in Ohno-gun, the northwest part of Gifu Prefecture.

As it is counted as the special heavy snow area, this area snows a lot during the winter season.
Because of this climate, a lot of Japanese houses with rafter roofs had been built to avoid snow covered the houses.

It was designated as the world cultural heritage in UNESCO in 1995, so that it is a popular tourist spot that a lot of people visits from both Japan and abroad.

“Wada’s house”, designated as the national important cultural property, is the Japanese house with rafter roof that is still used as a house, though it was built 300 years ago.
The mountain is its behind, and there are the grand view with the rich nature and the historic atmosphere.

In Shirakawa village, the house with the rafter roof is used as a guest house, and you are able to stay there.
You are able to eat simple and rich foods from local vegetables and seafoods, and spend the luxurious, relaxing time to sit in front of the warm hearth.

There are the calming tatami floored room and the peaceful view across the opening Shoji.
Leaving from the bustle, you will feel the time flies slowly.

From now on, it is good to see the autumn leaves from “Hakusan Shirakawagou White road”, a toll road that is 33.3 km from an old town Kanazawa to Shirakawagou.
Trees, colored in red and yellow, and the contrast between them and the blue sky is just marvelous.

After driving while seeing the autumn leaves, you are able to take a rest in the Japanese house with the rafter roof on the place of the world heritage.
