Shiogama City is in the almost center of Miyagi Prefecture, Tohoku region in Japan.
It locates between Sendai, the largest city in Tohoku region, and Matsushima, famous as Japanese three most famous views.

It is famous as one of the great port towns in Japan; it achieves the best landing of raw tunas in Japan.

There are “Shiwahiko Shrine and Shiogama Shrine”, and they are the head shrine of Shiogama Shrines in all over Japan.
In the Meiji Perifod, Shiwahiko Shrine placed in Shiogama Shrine.

Shiogama cherry blossoms in the same shrine are designated as the national treasure, and it makes a lot of people impressed.

“Shiogama Shrine Hote Festival” is held every March 10th, and it is a religious service, one of the Japanese three most great Mikoshi.
It is well known as a tradition of Shiogama in the early spring; 16 bearers wear white kimonos called Eboshi and Hakucho, and they carry 1t of Mikoshi to walk the town with more than 500 brilliant followers.

The view point of Hote Festival is that Mikoshi goes down 202 stone steps in Omotezaka of the approach in the shrine at a time.
This brave scene with the high tension forgets worshipers to take a breath.

Mikoshi passes through the town to pray for protecting against misfortune and prosperity.
There is Shiogama-Kaido Road in front of Shiogama Shrine.

It is a road, fulfilled by the atmosphere of a traditional shrine town.
We recommend you to stroll “historical road” while seeing breweries with big barrels, Japanese style houses’ shops with shop curtains, and a monument of Hyakunin-Isshu (100 poems by 100 poets).

There is a house called “Former Kamei’s house” near Shiogama Shrine.
It is opened as a rare building that including both Japanese and Western styles.

It is necessary to see the beautiful historic exterior, the atmosphere of the tatami floored Japanese room, and the atmosphere of the Western-style room.
Though it is closed every Wednesday and Thursday, it is glad to be opened in free.

Under Shiogama Shrine, there are Mikoshi, that passes through the silently developed Shiogama town, a historic road, and a former house with the tatami and the Japanese atmosphere.
Shiogama has a lot of view points in the early spring.
