The town of the beautiful nature and the spring water Enjoy the history of the castle town and the atmosphere of “water house” in Shimabara, Nagasaki

Nagasaki Prefecture is in the northwest part of Kyushu area, surrounded by the sea, and has a lot of islands and the rich nature.
Shimabara City has been prospered as a central city of “Shimabara Peninsula” in the southeast part of Nagasaki Prefecture, and it is the tourist city that remains the townscape of the castle town under Shimabara-jo Castle.

It was the place of “Shimabara War”, the biggest war in the history of Japan that broke out at the beginning of the Edo Period, and peasant and Christian people, who stirred up from heavy tax and suppression, were passed away here.

Shimabara-jo Castle was built from 1618 to 1624, and it has the high and strong stone wall.
Though it was destroyed in 1876, during the Meiji Period, after its main tower was rebuilt in 1964, it has shown the magnificent looks in Shimabara.

In the main tower, various historical documents about Shimabara War are exhibited as a Christian Museum, and also, the progress of a volcanic eruption of Mt. Unzen-Fugendake, happened in 1991, is introduced by photos, models, and 200 inch’s screen.
As a local historical museum that has a lot of documents of Christians, a lot of tourists are coming.

Because there is rich spring water through the town, “the town of swing carps” was made in the center of Shimabara, where is well known as the city of the water.
Waterways are kept beautifully by local people, and colorful carps are here elegantly.

In the center of this town, there is a garden “Shimeisou Spring Water Garden”.
Seeing the garden from the “balcony”, made a step higher, is just marvelous.

The calmed sitting room with the tatami, the warmth of the tatami, and beautiful and clear spring water create the best atmosphere, so that it attracts men and women of all ages as a famous garden.

The Japanese house made with the spring water like Shimensou is called “Water house”.
“Shimabara water house” is one of them; the 1st floor is Japanese style, and the 2nd floor is the Western style.

There is a cafe that is able to enjoy a local sweet in Shimabara “Kanzarashi” and coffee made from spring water.

It is also well known as “Maneki-Neko House”, that exhibits about 1,000 Maneki-neko (welcoming cat), and you should see pretty Maneki-Neko on the tatami.
You can enjoy the Japanese atmosphere well.

The journey of Shimabara in Nagasaki can memorize the history as the castle town, the clear spring water, and the beautiful view.
You will be healed and it will be the rich moment.
