“Shimanami Kaido” is an ocean road, that has a total length of 70km, and it connects 7 islands in Seto Inland Sea.
The whole road is able to pass by the bicycle, so that it is popular as a cycling road.

There is Seto Inland Sea, the view with the rich nature, and the blue sky…
We recommend you to visit Shimanami Kaido during this season, when is not so hot and cold, and you will enjoy the communications with friendly local people.

On October 20th, a big cycling event “Shimanami Yumeshima Cycling Fes 2019”, held once in 2 years, is held so that a lot of riders visit here.
You will enjoy cycling with the grateful breeze under the cheerful sky, and it will be a comfortable experience for you.

Shimanami Kaido is from Onomichi City in Hiroshima Prefecture to Imabari City in Ehime Prefecture.
Onomichi can be the starting point or the goal of your journey, and it is known as “the town of the temples, slopes, and movies”.

In 2015, it is designated as “Japanese heritage” by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
As a tasteful port town, there is the history, gathered temple architectures of the middle ages, slopes that occupy almost the town, and old folk houses.

They bring the great atmosphere, and there are various spots that want to visit; for example, Senko-Ji Temple, that has an attraction seeing a superb view from the temple, “Naoya Shiga’s former residence”, that is a Japanese house with the tatami floored Japanese room to show the breath of a great writer, and so on.

Also, “Saikoku-Ji Temple Jibutsu-Do” is necessary to see; there are dynamic calligraphies, and a marvelous Fusumae (painting on a fusuma), that harmonizes well with the tatami.

Also, you can enjoy the Japanese tea time in the old folk house cafe, and a famous food “Onomichi Ramen”, that attracts visitors.
During the autumn season, Onomichi is able to enjoy the wide sky, the clean air, and the cheerful view of Seto Inland Sea.
